Nalgonda
Staff Reporter
MEMORABLE OCCASION: Congress leaders felicitating V. Purushottam Reddy, Telangana Planning and Development Board Chairman, at Nalgonda on Wednesday.
NALGONDA: Vuppunuthala Purushottam Reddy, Telangana Planning and Development Board Chairman, feels `happy' to head the board. The senior Congress MLA told reporters on Wednesday during his maiden visit to the district headquarters after accepting the post after initial dilemma that he didn't give up the demand for a separate State for this backward region. "If we, the votaries of the Telangana cause, put up a united struggle, we can achieve separate State by 2009 elections. Though our leader Sonia Gandhi is very sympathetic towards the cause, we are spoiling the atmosphere," he observed adding that he would make use of his post to remove the imbalances and anomalies that came in the way of development. Asked about the fate of the Telangana Regional Congress Committee, launched by seniors like him, Mr. Reddy said: "Idi vunnattu kaadu, lenattu kaadu. Purpose ayipoyindi (It is neither existed nor dissolved. Purpose of its formation has been achieved.) He further said that the onus of clearing the misgivings with regard to the implementation of the GO 610 was more on Andhra leaders. "There should not be further delay in implementing the GO since the people of this region are totally dissatisfied with the developments," Mr. Reddy said.
Holds review meet
Taking exception to certain comments made by Andhra leader Gade Venkat Reddy and Rayalaseema leader T.G. Venkatesh he said: "Nobody should cross his limits as the separate State is a sensitive issue." Later, he held a review meeting with officials and people's representatives at the Collectorate. Mr. Reddy asked the officials to implement Government schemes at a rapid pace without giving any scope for corruption. Zilla Parishad chairperson K. Narayana Reddy, Collector M. Purushottam Reddy, MLAs Nomula Narasimhaiah, Julakanti Ranga Reddy and Vedasu Venkaiah -- and the MLCs--Cherupalli Sitaramulu and Neti Vidyasagar also took part in the meeting.
