Tax collection goes up

NEW DELHI: Finance and Planning Minister A. K. Walia on Wednesday said the tax collection of the Delhi Government had shown an appreciable increase in the first two months of the current financial year.

While the increase in collection of stamps and registration fees has been more than 100 per cent (105.72 per cent), increase in taxes on vehicles has been 27.46 per cent. The State Excise and Entertainment Departments have netted 27.26 per cent more taxes than in the corresponding period last fiscal.

Value Added Tax (VAT) collections have gone up by 12.8 per cent. In terms of numbers, the total tax collections went up from Rs. 1,782.32 crore in April and May last year to Rs. 2,221.52 crore in April and May this year. In April the Government collected Rs. 1,160.51 crore in taxes and in May Rs. 1,061.01 crore. Stamps and registration fees collections went up from Rs. 188.28 crore to Rs. 387.34 crore, while VAT collections went up from Rs. 1,306.53 crore to Rs. 1,473.75 crore. Excise and entertainment tax collections have gone up to Rs. 266.69 crore from Rs. 213.85 crore.
