HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has charged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy with "working only for the benefit of his family and his friends" and not for the people of the State. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, senior TDP leader R. Chandrasekhar Reddy said allotment of thousands of acres of Government land to companies in which his family members and supporters are directors and diversion of Krishna waters to these projects, located in his constituency, Pulivendula, exposed his partisanship.
Examples
He cited the examples of a whopping 10,060 acres of land to Brahmani Steels, owned by his friend, and 2,300 acres to a cement company in which his son is a director. It is also now clear that the capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator is essentially to supply water for such projects in his constituency at the expense of other parts of Kadapa, other districts of Rayalaseema and regions of the State, he alleged. "He seems to have forgotten the oath he had taken while assuming charge as Chief Minister that he would work for the people of the entire State," he said. He said Kadapa district Collector owes an explanation as to how he could allow allotment of such huge extents of land to one or two firms. The State Cabinet Ministers too seem to be meeting only for clearing projects favoured by the Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged.
