Two arrested
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Bangalore Rural police on Wednesday arrested two persons from West Bengal for sending three children to work in factories in Kacharakanakalli village. The three children were living with 147 others in an abandoned poultry farm in Doddammsandra village.
According to Anugondanahalli police, Atif Mohammed and Tarun Das, the two accused, were involved in sending cheap labour from West Bengal to factories in the area. Two weeks ago, the police said, Mohammed and Das had arranged to send 150 persons from different parts of West Bengal to work in three factories in Kacharakanahalli.
Some of the workers in the factories called their relatives in West Bengal and informed them about the use of child labour. The relatives in turn informed a journalist, who filed a complaint with the Anugondanahalli police here. A police team went to the abandoned poultry farm and rescued the three children, who were between 12 and 13 years.
Police are searching for four local persons, who were said to be accomplices of Mohammed and Das.
