BANGALORE: A vineyard worker and his employer, who tried to rescue him, were electrocuted at the vineyard at Dommasandra in Sarjapur police station limits on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. The police gave the names of the dead as Yella Reddy (60) and his worker Eshwar (16). Following heavy rain and gusty winds on Tuesday night, an electric cable had snapped at the vineyard. On Wednesday, when Eshwar was cutting grass, his sickle came in contact with the livewire and he was electrocuted, the police said. On hearing Eshwar's screams, Reddy rushed to his help. While running towards the boy, he slipped and fell on the livewire and was electrocuted, the police said. The Sarjapur police have registered a case.
Held for murder
The Madivala sub-division police on Tuesday arrested two persons who had allegedly murdered a driver and dumped his body at Singasandra Lake on Hosur Road in October 2006. The police gave the names of the arrested as Shantha Murthy, alias Murthy (21), of Koodlu Gate and Annadorai (25) of Garvebavipalya. The accused were produced before the court on Tuesday and the magistrate remanded them in police custody till June 7.
Chain snatched
Two men, who were riding a motorcycle, snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 75,000 from a woman in Jayanagar police station limits on Wednesday. The police said that around 8.15 a.m., the two snatched the chain from Vedavathi (46) who was walking near the National College in Jayanagar VII Block. The Jayanagar police have registered a case.
Killed in accident
Four persons were killed in as many road accidents in the city since Tuesday noon. M. Mallikarjuna (66) was killed after a sand-laden lorry rammed his scooter on Mysore Road, near Rajarajeswarinagar entrance, around 6 a.m. on Wednesday. He was shopkeeper and a resident of ITI Colony in Rajarajeshwarinagar. Ricky John (24), a pedestrian, was killed after a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus knocked him down near Agara bus stop on Sarjapur Road on Tuesday. In another incident, Suresh (28) was killed after a lorry hit his motorcycle near Kalyananagar Ring Road junction around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nagaraj (28) was killed after he came under the rear wheels of a BMTC bus while trying to board the moving bus near Garvebavipalya on Hosur Road on Tuesday noon. Nagaraj, a tailor, was a resident of Bommanahalli. .
Arrested
The Siddapura police have arrested two persons who were allegedly selling fake lubricants and engine oil in the name of a reputed brand. The police have seized lubricants estimated at Rs. 1.50 lakh from the arrested, Madaiah (29) and Mani (20) of Cement Colony on J.C. Nagar.
