COIMBATORE: The Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) is conducting a feasibility study on some industrial clusters in the State to see if it can help establishment of common facility centres for these clusters. According to an official of the institute here, the units will have to contribute, either through their associations or jointly, a minimum 30 per cent of the project cost. The centre will provide the rest as grant through the State Government. The wet grinder units here are one of the first beneficiaries of the project for common facilities through a three-year cluster programme that expired in March this year. The official said that the Coimbatore Wetgrinder and Accessories Manufacturers' Association had appealed for the extension of the programme. The Centre had provided for Rs. 20 lakh as assistance to the cluster. The aim was to equip the association with capacity to continue the common activities for its members beyond the three-year period. One project under this programme was setting up a common facility centre at a cost of Rs. 2.88 crore. The building work was over and orders would be placed for the machinery soon. This component of the cluster programme would be continued, he said.
