Record handling by Kolkata Dock System

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Dock System (KDS) of the Kolkata Port Trust handled a record 46 vessels, a jump of around 12 per cent over the previous high of 40 vessels handled in September 2006. The commodities that contributed to the growth in container traffic at KDS include electronics goods, chemicals, machinery and spares, metal ingots and polythene granules which were imported and carbon black, iron and steel, leather goods, polythene products, jutes and machinery, tea, ferrochrome and cotton, which comprised the export cargo, says a release.
