KARAIKAL: The Puducherry Government is according high priority for Karaikal while implementing all welfare schemes and other development projects, said E. Valsaraj, Minister for Health and Labour, here on Thursday. Inaugurating short-term job-oriented courses to unemployed women, organised by the Voluntary Study Circle of the Labour Department, the Minister said that the Government was providing all infrastructure to Karaikal region. He also inaugurated the computerisation of works in the Labour Department in the region. Mr. Valsaraj, also in-charge of Housing and Port, said that the Government was taking steps to establish a new port and an airport in Karaikal. The Government was taking steps to establish a special economic zone to provide employment to thousands of people here. A 500-bed super-specialty hospital would soon be established at a cost of Rs.50 crore. A.M.H. Nazeem, MLA, urged the Government to establish a Government Engineering College in Karaikal this year itself as announced. He requested the Government to take steps with the Railway Ministry for quick laying of the broad gauge rail link between Nagore and Karaikal.
