Abhaya case: CCE suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has suspended from service pending inquiry Chief Chemical Examiner R. Geetha and her colleague and chemical analyst M. Chithra. Earlier, the Chief Judicial Magistrate court here had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the officials on the charge of tampering the chemical analysis report in the Sister Abhaya unnatural death case. The court later granted them bail in the case. — Staff Reporter

Petition disposed of

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by P. Babu, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department, Medical College, Kottayam, seeking anticipatory bail in a complaint filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Ernakulam, in connection with the disappearance of the post-mortem work book register in the Abhaya case. When the petition was taken up, the CBI informed Justice V. Ramkumar that the magistrate had sent the complaint only to the CBI and that the CBI had no intention to arrest the accused. So, the court observed that the apprehension of the petitioner that the police would harass him was unfounded. — Special Correspondent
