Gouri demands copy of Padmarajan panel report

Staff Reporter

Says it was `pure sabotage' at Aroor election

ALAPPUZHA: Janadhipathya Samrakshna Samithi (JSS) leader K.R. Gouri has reiterated her demand to the Congress for the C.V. Padmarajan Committee report, which had probed into her defeat at Aroor in the last Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Ms. Gouri said though the JSS had conducted its own inquiries and expelled those who were found guilty of trying to sabotage her chances of victory, the Congress was yet to give her a copy of the report, which had been submitted to the KPCC in October last.

``It was pure sabotage. Otherwise Aroor is not a place where I would ever face defeat," the veteran leader said.

The Congress had appointed a committee led by former KPCC president C.V. Padmarajan to inquire into the defeat and the committee had conducted hearings taking testimonies from all local Congress leaders and workers in Aroor. However, a copy of the report was not yet submitted to Ms. Gouri, she said.

The JSS, meanwhile, declared support for the agitation by the 'One lakh Yuva Karshaka Samithi' (OYKS), a farmers' organisation, against the "neglect" by the State Government.

Ms. Gouri said the Government had promised to give employment to one-lakh youngsters in agriculture and allied sectors about 10 years ago.

More than a lakh youngsters had joined that scheme, each contributing Rs.1,000. In addition the Government had put in Rs.1,100 as its share for each participant. The Government was to provide financial and technical support for projects that members of the scheme could start under the self-employment programme.

However, though the fund had now gone above Rs.50 crore, the Government had not done anything for implementing the scheme, she said.
