GULBARGA: President of the Karnataka State Daily Wage Employees Association Chandrasekhar Hiremath has said that he will go on an indefinite fast at Jakkarayanakere in Bangalore city from June 11, demanding regularisation of the services of daily wage employees working in government and quasi-government departments in the State. At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Hiremath said that he was forced to go on a hunger strike owing to the "indifference" of the Government and the "false" promises given by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and other Ministers with regard to the issue. He said that the Chief Minister had assured twice that the services of the daily wage employees would be regularised. Mr. Hiremath said that the Government had been denying them the equal wages for equal work as prescribed by the Supreme Court and also other facilities including retirement benefits and leave. They were drawing less than 25 per cent of the wages drawn by permanent staff, he said. More than 10,000 daily wage employees from Bellary, Raichur, Bangalore Rural and Urban districts, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Hassan, Mandya, Tumkur, Bidar and Gulbarga districts would participate in the "mass satyagraha" to be held at Jakkarayanakere on June 11. While Mr. Hiremath would go on an indefinite fast, the daily wage employees will go on a relay fast.
