Literacy rate still below 65%, says STFI leader

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: National general secretary of School Teachers Federation of India (STFI) K. Rajendran has said that the literacy rate in the country had not crossed 65 per cent even after 60 years of Independence owing to lack of commitment among rulers.

Inaugurating the Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation State convention here on Thursday, Mr. Rajendran said that the Governments, which were encouraging commercialisation of education from KG to PG level, were ignoring education in the public sector.
