3 die in lightning

GUNTUR: A person and his two sons died when lightning struck in their cotton farm in Khajipadu of Pedakurapadu mandal on Thursday. The victims were: Durga Vara Prasad (48), Ravindra Babu (25) and Srikanth (20). Ravindra had just landed a job in an MNC, police said. - Staff Reporter

Three women killed

NELLORE: Three women were killed and 19 injured in a road accident at Salipet of T.P. Gudur police limits on Thursday. The accident occurred when the tractor in which 40 women farm labour was hit by a lorry. The victims were: D. Chennamma (24), M. Vanamma (30) and D. Adilakshmi (30). - Staff Reporter

2 lorries detained

ADILABAD: Adilabad Tehsildar K. Laxma Reddy on Wednesday detained two lorries loaded with manganese ore on suspicion of the ore being smuggled. The lorries were intercepted on a tip-off and it was found that the ore was being transported without valid papers. - Staff Reporter
