BHUBANESWAR: A day after child marathoner Budhia Singh was prevented from undertaking a 500 km-walk, a revision petition was filed before Orissa High Court seeking quashing of ban imposed by Khurda district Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The move to approach High Court was contemplated in apprehension that there might be delay in taking up the case in the court of District and Sessions Judge, Khurda, Counsel of Budhia, Bibhu Prasad Tripathy said. The petition is likely to come for hearing next week.

Meanwhile, Budhia, along with his mother and a group of children, continued their dharna on the premises of Bhanja Kala Mandap here in the morning protesting previous day's police action in wake of the ban order.

They were seen wearing black badges while two legs of Budhia was tied with black ribbon as a mark of protest to the ban.

Child's mentor Biranchi Das said the children would continue to protest CWC's 'arbitrary' ban decision.

"The 11-day marathon walk by Budhia is on. As soon as we get clearance from High Court, we will surely embark on the journey," he said.

The CWC, a quasi-judicial body, had imposed ban that the child marathoner could not be engaged in any manner in the event.

The walkathon was scheduled to start from Bhubaneswar on June 6 and conclude at Kolkata on June 16.

The Child Welfare Committee was of the view that Budhia, who had incredible stamina to run long distance, was being exploited for some other's benefit.
