Heavy rain: Bellary gropes in the dark

BELLARY: Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder showers and lightning, lashed Bellary and other taluks in the district on Wednesday, inundating the low-lying areas. This is the second day in succession the district has been experiencing good rain.

Bellary received around 35 mm of rain and Sirguppa 40 mm. Good rain was experienced also in Hospet, Hagari Bommanahalli, Hadagali.

There has been no power supply in several parts of the city since Wednesday night owing to a technical snag at the main power station. It was not restored till late Thursday evening. GESCOM officials informed that the transformer at the main station and also a few other transformers in the city had burst.

Efforts were on to restore power supply after 8 p.m., an official said.
