Anbazhagan's appeal to partymen

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: General secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Finance Minister, K. Anbazhagan, on Thursday appealed to party activists to remain calm even as All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers indulge in "atrocious acts such as burning the effigy of the Chief Minister."

In a statement here, he said general secretary of the AIADMK Jayalalithaa attempted to divert the attention of the people by spreading rumours that Income Tax Department was planning to conduct searches at her Poes Garden residence in Chennai.

Though cases were foisted against the DMK leaders during the previous AIADMK rule, no violent protests were staged then, he said, asking the public not to be carried away by AIADMK's "false propaganda."
