CHENNAI
: Unidentified thieves escaped with cash and jewellery from the residence of an IAS officer in Indira Nagar, falling within Tiruvanmiyur police station limits, on Thursday.
Police said that the officer Illangovan and his family members found the valuables missing from the almirah on Thursday morning.
A senior police officer said besides the IAS officer's family, a few software professionals also resided in the same compound as tenants.
The thieves could have gained entry into the house from the terrace.
Whether it was the handiwork of a person known to the complainant or an outsider would be known during the investigation, he said.
A similar case of theft was reported in the same house about a year and a half ago, the officer said, adding that the multi-storeyed building has a watchman.
According to the complaint, 21 sovereign jewels and Rs 25,000 cash kept in the almirah was missing.
A case has been registered, police said.
