NEW DELHI: On Thursday, when the Capital sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius, the demand for power shot up to a new high. The peak load on the system was recorded at 3,901 MW, up from 3,804 MW recorded on May 16. The peak load on the system was recorded at 3-49 p.m. with 7 MW load shedding by BRPL due to overloading of transformer at Okhla Phase-II. The maximum load shedding of 75 MW was due to under-frequency for five minutes and the areas affected were Pappankalan, Jafarpur and Rama Park. The total generation of power in the city was 1,223 MW, with the Badarpur Thermal Power Station producing 601 MW, Gas Turbine producing about 157 MW, Indraprastha power plant generating 139 MW, and Pragati and Rajghat plants generating 265 MW and 61 MW each. The demand for power is expected to increase further in the coming days as the weatherman has forecast a rise in temperature.
