Posing as courier staff, 4-man gang robs woman

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Posing as courier delivery staff, four men barged into a house in Katriguppe on Wednesday, gagged a homemaker and robbed her of her gold jewellery worth Rs. 1 lakh.

The police said that around 2.30 p.m. two men knocked on the door of Jayalakshmi's house in Vivekanandanagar in Katriguppe. When Jayalakshmi (58), who was alone at home, opened the door, they said there was a packet for her son and handed over an envelope.

The two then pushed her, barged into the house, and gagged and trussed her. The two, joined by two accomplices, threatened Jayalakshmi with a knife and robbed her of her jewellery, including the mangalasutra.

They ransacked the house. However, they did not touch the Euro 2,500 that was in a safe. On a complaint by Jayalakshmi, the Channammanakere Achukattu police have registered a case.

Cheated

Two men posing as gold polishers cheated a housewife and made away with her jewellery estimated at Rs. 80,000 in Channammanakere Achukattu police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said that around 3 p.m. the two men came to Meena's house in Bhuvaneshwarinagar in 2nd Stage, Banashankari, and introduced themselves as gold polishers from a leading mall.

Meena handed over to them her gold jewellery which they placed in a pressure cooker with some water and some chemical. They told Meena to boil it for some time and left. When she opened the vessel later, she found the ornaments missing, the police said.

Suicide

Anasuya (25), who was allegedly harassed for more dowry by her husband, hanged herself to death at her house in Kamalanagar on Wednesday.

The police said Anasuya had married Rajanna, a private security guard, six years ago. Anasuya's father Putta Nayak of Hassan district has lodged a complaint with the Basaveshwaranagar police that she ended her life as Rajanna was torturing her for more dowry.

Killed in accident

S.J. Naveen (32), a businessman, was killed after a private bus hit their motorcycle near Jaraganahalli Cross on Kanakapura Road around 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday. Naveen was a resident of Basaveshwaranagar.
