This Day That Age
His Highness Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, Governor of Mysore, said in Madras on June 7 that South India was gradually becoming more and more industrialised. "I feel the future holds good promise for this part of the country to set up more industries and to improve the standard of living of the common man." The Governor was declaring open the factory of the Tube Products of India Ltd., at Avadi. Planned and developed in collaboration with Tube Investments Ltd., Birmingham, U.K., the factory has a target for the production of 12 million feet of tubes which will nearly meet the requirements of the country. The inaugural function was held under a special shamiana put up close to the factory. Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam and Mr. C. Subramaniam, Ministers, Dr. U. Krishna Rao, Speaker of the Assembly, were among those present. Mr. A.M.M. Murugappa Chettiar, Managing Director, presented an address of welcome to Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, and Dr. A. Ramaswami Mudaliar, Chairman, garlanded him.
