Shahabuddin's passport to be cancelled

Patna: Bihar police are taking steps to get the passport and driving licence of convicted RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin cancelled.

Shahabuddin, who was awarded life imprisonment by a court in Siwan for the kidnapping of a CPI-ML worker, is now being held in Siwan Jail.

``I have asked the officer in-charge of Hussainganj police station, Ranvijay Singh, to find out whether the MP possesses any passport and driving licence,'' Siwan's Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar said on Friday.

``In the event of Shahabuddin having a passport, we will recommend its cancellation to the passport office,'' he said. Besides, his driving licence will also be scrapped, he said. Of the 31 cases against Shahabuddin, chargesheets have been filed in 29 and charges framed against him in eight others.

The cases pending against him include those of murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of arms of foreign make.- PTI
