NEW DELHI: Ramjas College of Delhi University is all set to go global. Its students can now study a semester of their three-year programme at the University of Antwerp in Belgium and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in neighbouring Pakistan. The 90-year-old college has set up a faculty and student exchange programme with the University of Antwerp, Belgium, for the coming academic year. Also, after the exchange of faculty members with LUMS in 2006 following the signing of a MoU between the two, Ramjas is now gearing up for a similar arrangement between students. "We wish to empower our students and faculty with the latest developments and progress that is taking place in the academic and cultural arenas across the world. In our exchange programmes we are also focusing on joint research activities by teachers," said Ramjas College Principal Rajender Prasad on Thursday. Students from Ramjas will be able to pursue courses in the Faculties of Arts, Political and Social Science, Applied Economic Sciences and Science while those from Antwerp can choose any of the several courses offered by the college. Under this exchange programme, students will pay tuition and other fees only to their parent universities though the cost of living would be borne by the learners themselves. Regarding the faculty exchange programme, arrangements have been made to facilitate joint research by the teaching community of Ramjas and the University of Antwerp. Under the student exchange programme with LUMS, Ramjas students can study courses at the School of Arts and Sciences covering Social Sciences and Economics, while their counterparts from LUMS will be free to take up courses in Social Sciences and Humanities taught at Ramjas. Ramjas will also start a slew of new short-term add-on courses in the upcoming new academic year to provide an opportunity to students of the college as well as other colleges to sharpen their knowledge on different subjects.
