BHUBANESWAR: AIDS has claimed a total of 648 lives in Orissa so far, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Duryodhan Majhitold the State Assembly on Friday. Replying to a question by Congress legislator Ananta Sethi on the issue, Mr. Majhi said the highest number of 218 deaths were reported from Ganjam district. The other districts that recorded high rate of deaths due to AIDS are Kendrapara (68), Puri (52), Koraput (39), Khurda (37) and Cuttack(32). Mr. Majhi said that as many as 865 persons suffering from AIDS had been identified in the State since 2002. Besides, a total of 6,022 persons had been identified as HIV positive in the State.
