CHENNAI : The Rotary Club of Madras Metro on Friday presented the `For the Sake of Honour Award' to Mathew Samuel Kalarickal, cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals, and the `Corporate Excellence Award' to N. K. Ranganath, CEO, Grundfos Pumps India. Rotary's former District Governor C. S. Ramachandran gave away the awards. Dr. Kalarickal, described to the audience as `a jet setting cardiologist who spared time to perform free surgeries for the needy', is a recipient of the Padmashri award and the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award. He is also credited with several patents, including one for an equipment to characterise cutaneous pain. Dr. Kalarickal who graduated from the Kottayam Medical College in Kerala, attributed whatever he achieved to a higher power and said that one reaped the benefits of a set of circumstances that came their way. "One cannot take all credit for success, and instead, should think about how best to improve further." Mr. Ranganath said the award served an incentive to do much more. Grundfos has been channelling its profits into corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that included assisting spastics and Down's Syndrome patients. Rotarians V. S. Pradeep and Vijay Javeri also spoke.
