Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday at Katabomman Block, Poongavanam Street, Vadivel Street, Guindy Rathinam Street, Gangaiamman Koil Street, Veethi Mariamman Koil Street, Govindan Street, Muthurangan Block, Murugesan Street, VOC Block, Balasubramani Street, 12 Muragari Salai, Munuswamy Street, Punniakoti Street, Amma Kannammal Street, Mani Street, Gandhi Street, Valluvar Street and Venugopal Street in Saidapet.

Blood donation camp

The blood bank of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu branch, conducted a blood donation camp at Datamatics Technologies Limited, Nungambakkam, on Thursday.

Night-sky observation

Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre is conducting a night-sky observation programme for school students and teachers between 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Saturday on its premises on Gandhi Mandapam Road. The programme, subject to the clear sky condition, is part of the series being organised every second Saturday.

Free medical camp

Hindu Mission Hospital organised a free medical camp from May 29 to June 6 in Kancheepuram during the Brahmotsavam of Sri Varadaraja Swamy temple. Several devotees, who had burnt their soles after accidentally stepping on lit-camphor on roads during processions, were treated. Patients with major health complaints were referred to the hospital for free treatment.

Panel meeting

The Monitoring Committee, constituted to ensure compliance with building regulations, met here on Friday. The High Court-appointed committee discussed several issues relating to regularisation. Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority representatives did not comment on the meeting, saying that a public statement on the discussions would be issued on Saturday.

Free computer education

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology Centre is opening another centre at Ramakrishna Dorairaj Sadan on 12, Thanikachalam Street, T. Nagar, to commemorate 10 years of its service. These centres impart free computer education to the unemployed youth from economically backward sections. About 11,000 students have been trained in various courses so far at the centre in Mylapore. The students of the 40th batch will receive their certificates and awards from former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University A. Kalanidhi on Monday.

Cancer awareness

A free cancer awareness programme will be conducted on Sunday by Paterson Cancer Centre on Vijaya Health Centre premises, Vadapalani, to mark its fourth anniversary. A panel of oncology specialists will interact with the public.
