Man sets wife afire; commits suicide
According to the police, Lokpal had an altercation with his wife Krishna following which he set her on fire. Later he doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire. Lokpal was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The condition of Krishna was stated to be serious. Their daughters Vibha (24) and Ratna (22) are in hospital with burns. "Krishna had an argument with Lokpal over the marriage of their daughters. She blamed him for not making enough efforts to find a suitable match for their daughters. The argument took a violent turn and he set her on fire," said a senior police officer. Lokpal was serving sentence in a murder case and was out on parole. He had lost his son in an accident two years ago.
Alleged suicide by businessman
According to the police, Danesh Kumar was found hanging in his office in South Extension Part-I in the morning. A suicide note recovered from the spot said that he had given a few lakh rupees to three persons to arrange for a loan but they did not return it. He was a native of Kerala and had recently shifted his office here.
Delhi cop found dead
According to the police, Satish Kumar was found hanging in his house at Azadpur around 10-30 a.m. His wife Sangita, a nurse, was away at work. A suicide note has been recovered in which Satish purportedly said that nobody was responsible for his death. A native of Bhagpat in Uttar Pradesh, Satish had joined the police nine years ago. He was posted at the Connaught Place police station.
Man dies at Tihar Jail
According to the police, Kamaljeet, a high blood-pressure patient, complained of nausea and stomach-ache on Thursday night and was referred to a hospital. He died in the hospital on Friday morning.
Ration grant for prison staff hiked
The Government has agreed to grant of ration money allowance of Rs. 722 a month to the wardens, head wardens, matrons, head matrons and assistant superintendents. As per various Prison Reform Committee reports, the prison staff is to be paid salary and allowance at par with the police.
