A guide to city's traffic

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The city police are preparing the ground for improving traffic system. As part of this effort, the force has brought out a 42-page Traffic Guide.

This booklet is a must in the knapsack of any traveller coming into Kochi. It starts with the four entry points into the city and gives route directions from main junctions such as Edappally, Palarivattom, Kaloor, Thoppumpady and Vytilla.

Useful segment

The important and the most useful segment of the guide comes next - a neat outlay of important roads in the city. Starting with Broadway, the pages have details of M.G. Road, Chittoor Road, Banerjee Road, Sahodaran Ayyappan Road, T.D. Road, Market Road and Shanmugham Road.

These depictions carry a basic outline of the main road and give indications to where the side roads lead. It also lists out the important offices and institutions situated along each road. Another key segment of importance to those who drive around the city is the list of one-way roads in the city limit.

The booklet gives details about the traffic police stations in the city, its sub-divisions and sub-units and their jurisdiction.

Other lists given in the booklet include that of main shopping centres and shops, taxi cabs and call taxis, `pay-and-park centres,' bus punching cabins, pre-paid auto counters, tyre recapping and repairing centres, automobile workshops and service stations and petrol bunks in the city that work round-the-clock.

Auto fares

For those who are using public transport, the booklet has autorickshaw charges from South Railway Station, North Railway Station, KSRTC and Kaloor bus stands to important points in the city, including the charges between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. and those between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Timings of train and inter-State bus services from the city, telephone numbers of emergency services like hospitals, ambulance, blood banks, and fire stations.

The booklet was released at the traffic show held last month, and now it is available for the public at traffic stations, aid posts and pre-paid counters.
