Both the vessels will be built in the Indian Registry of Shipping class. The order was placed by Poompuhar Shipping Corporation, a Government of Tamil Nadu enterprise. The keels of the boats will be laid on Monday at the KSINC slipway in Thopumpady by Captain S Thayagarajan, officer on special duty of Poompuhar. Each boat will be 21 m long, 6.30 m wide, 1.80 m in depth and powered by two ALM 402 engines. The vessel will cost Rs.105 lakh each and will be delivered by December 2007.
