Efforts to popularise the game in the country sought

  • Sub-Collector, UDA chief also take part
  • Call to promote all games

VIJAYAWADA: Efforts should be made to popularise the game of baseball in India, which is the most sought after game in the United States of America, according to Sub-Collector Bhanu Prasad.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day 4th Andhra Pradesh senior inter-district baseball championship at IGMC stadium here on Saturday, Mr. Prasad congratulated the administrators on organising the championship after a gap of many years. "Vijayawada has produced many international sportspersons. It is nice to see the resurrection of baseball in the city," he added.

Urban Development Authority chairman Malladi Vishnu appreciated Municipal Commissioner's Natarajan Gulzar's gesture for following the championship to be conducted on the lush green outfield of IGMC stadium. "Unfortunately only cricket is extended overwhelming support. It is time other games too were promoted," he said.

Much to the delight of the players representing 12 districts, both Mr. Prasad and Mr. Vishnu wielded the club with gay abandon.

AP PETS' Association secretary P.V.B. Prasad, corportor S.P. Gritton, KDBA president G. Vamsi Mohan and secretary K.N.V. Prasad took part in the opening ceremony.
