Company asked to utilise the land in Dharwad district within a specified time

  • Company says it will start production immediately after getting permission
  • It has requested the Government to defer VAT payment for 18 years

HUBLI: Revenue and district-in-charge minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the land near Dharwad would be allotted to Tata Motors with conditions to utilise it within a specified period of time.

He told presspersons here on Saturday that the conditions would be like utilising the allotted land for setting up the manufacturing facility within five years and the company had agreed to it.

Jagadish Shettar clarified that the company had sought 300 acres of land near the Belur Industrial Area and the State would not be acquiring land from the villagers. Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) already had 300 acres of land in its possession, he said.

According to the proposal of the company, the manufacturing unit for production of luxury buses and other vehicles would employ 10,000 people directly and 27,000 people indirectly, he said.

The Minister said the company officials had made it clear that they would start production immediately after the sanction from the State Government.

On the exemption sought by the company, Mr. Shettar said it had sought deferred payment option of Value Added Tax (VAT) for 18 years. The amount to be considered as loan, the repayment of which would start after 10 years.

    Committee formed

The committee, headed by Chief Secretary, would be looking into these aspects, he said.

The State Cabinet recently approved the proposal by the Tata Motors to start a manufacturing unit of luxury motor vehicles near Dharwad where it already had a unit.
