1,400 police vacancies to be filled soon

PALAKKAD: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that 1,400 vacancies in the Police Department would be filled up this month.

Inaugurating the new building of the Mangalam Dam police station, near here, on Saturday, the Minister said that 3,400 vacancies that would fall vacant by December this year was already reported to the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The vacancies were reported in advance to the PSC to avoid delay in selecting the candidates.

The Minister said that 54 police stations in the State that do not have their own building would be provided new buildings. The District Collectors had been asked to locate suitable land for the purpose.

Modernisation

Various steps were taken to modernise and make the police administration more efficient, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said that the community police system introduced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode would be extended to all Corporations and municipalities in the State.

M. Chandran, MLA, presided. Inspector General of Police M.N. Krishnamurthy presented a report. Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinath Mishra welcomed the gathering and District Superintendent of Policed Vijay Sakare proposed a vote of thanks.
