KOZHIKODE: Joint Commissioner of Entrance Examinations S.N. Kumar has told students to keep their key number and password confidential to prevent any foul play in the online allotment process for admission to professional colleges in the State. Speaking at a pre-admission guidance programme organised by The Hindu -Educationplus here on Saturday, Mr. Kumar said the applicant should log out of the website after entering his/her choices and saving them. He cited a few examples of students not getting allotments as per their choice last year. Their choices were tampered with by someone who knew of the key numbers. Also, if a candidate gives 75 choices and gets the 54th option in the first allotment, all options from 55 to 75 will get deleted automatically. But the higher options will remain active. They could rearrange their higher options after the first allotment but could not opt for a new option. Those who apply online will have to first type out their roll number, application number, key number, new password and confirm password. The candidates will be sent the datasheet very shortly and their key number will be given there. The next page of the online allotment process has links, course list and college list, where details of the courses and colleges are given. Then a printout of an optional working sheet which appears on the screen should be taken and manually filled in. The same should be filled on the screen then. Verify the options and then wait for one's first allotment. As many as 425 persons, 294 of them students, participated in the programme. Kadeeja Mumtaz, associate professor, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Kozhikode Medical College, said the medical stream was not an area for those who sought comforts and luxury. P.O.J. Lebba, secretary, MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, said government engineering colleges had an edge as far as members of the faculty were concerned. State Bank of Travancore (SBT) was the presenting sponsor and T.I.M.E. the co-sponsor of the event. A handbook providing an overview of the main courses was given free to each participant. Ajay Antony of TIME said that if one hated a particular branch, one should not join it. C.R. Seshasayee, assistant general manager, SBT, made a brief presentation on education loan. R. Madhavan Nair, senior assistant editor, The Hindu , Kozhikode, and N.V. Balamurali, branch manager, The Hindu , Kozhikode, were among those who spoke on the occasion.
