CET: new ranks assigned

BANGALORE: The Common Entrance Test Cell has assigned new ranks to candidates whose second year pre-university marks have been changed after re-evaluation. The new ranks will be available on the website http://cet.kar.nic.in after 3 p.m. on Monday.

The admission round seat-selection process for rank-holders from 20001 for admission to Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy will be held on Monday.

A press release from the Common Entrance Test Cell said the selection process would begin at 9 a.m.

A total of 621 seats in Ayurveda, 147 in Homoeopathy, 61 in Unani and 46 in Naturopathy and Yoga are available. — Staff Reporter

Farmer commits suicide

Chickballapur: A farmer of Ajjavar village in Chickballapur taluk committed suicide, reportedly because he was unable to repay bank loans. The police identified him as R. Narayanaswamy, 55. The body of the farmer, who was missing since Tuesday, was found on Thursday.

Shepherds noticed the body hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village. — Staff Correspondent

Food poisoning affects more inmates

MYSORE: Nine more inmates of Mysore Central Prison were admitted to K.R. Hospital here on Saturday with dysentery and vomiting, taking the number of those admitted to hospital with suspected food poisoning to 16.

According to reports, nine inmates, including two women, were administered intravenous fluid and kept under observation at the emergency and prison wards of the hospital on Saturday.

It is learnt that the inmates were taken ill after consuming food served on Friday night. — Staff Correspondent

MCI team inspects medical college

HASSAN: A three-member Medical Council of India, which arrived here on Thursday, inspected the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences on Friday.

The team enquired about the facilities available for students. The members interacted with the teaching staff and asked about vacant professor posts and the efforts being made to fill them.

On Thursday night, the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who represents Hassan in the Lok Sabha, held discussions with the MCI members at the Government Guesthouse here. — Staff Correspondent

New posting for

M. Jayaram

BANGALORE: The State Government has promoted Chief Conservator of Forests (Communication and Information) M. Jayaram to the rank of Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and posted him as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Personnel) in the upgraded post.

The earlier order posting Mr. Jayaram as Executive Director, Karnataka Forest Development Corporation Ltd. (Rubber), Mangalore, and A.K. Singh as Chief Conservator of Forests (Personnel), Bangalore, has been cancelled.

Bellary Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer C.M. Shirol has been transferred and posted as Director, Suvarna Gramodaya Project, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. — Staff Reporter
