HYDERABAD: The BJP was in favour of a consensus candidate for Presidential election as no party enjoyed a clear majority in Parliament. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was willing to arrive at a consensus with the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on the issue if the latter came forward. If there was no response from the UPA, the NDA would go it aIone in the election, former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here on Saturday. Mr. Naidu defended the candidature of Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat as he had a long experience as a Parliamentarian, Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
