Welfare boards for washermen, goldsmiths

CHENNAI: The State Government on Saturday set up separate welfare boards for washermen and goldsmiths.

An official release here said the boards were formed in tune with the announcement made in the budget for 2006-2007, and the promise made by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in its election manifesto to ensure better implementation of the welfare schemes for workers in the unorganised sector.

The Labour Minister will be the chairman of the welfare boards. The Labour Commissioner, Finance Secretary, Law Secretary, Director of Backward Classes and Director of Social Welfare will be the Government's representatives.

In the welfare board for goldsmiths, Ravi Bharathi, M.R. Rajavel, P.N. Viswanathan, K.V. Selvam, A. Duraivelu, M. Murthy and N.S. Raja will represent the employers. V. Sivanesan, P. Chandran, N. Selvaraj, M. Ramachandran and Tirumalai Kumarasamy Yadav will represent the workers. The welfare board for washermen will have K.S. Janakiraman, R. Maharajan, P. Murugan, R. Ranganathan and Subramani as employers' representatives. The labour side will be represented by V. Shanmugam, M.M. Samy, E. Ponmudi, A. Samy, L. Bhaskaran and P. Lakshmanan.
