ANANTAPUR: Lok Ayukta of Andhra Pradesh Justice R. Ramanujam was critical of the attitude of State Government in the matter of implementation of reports (judgments) of the institution here on Saturday. Ruling parties had been exploiting the weakness in the Lok Ayukta Act in the matter of implementation of its decisions. Speaking to media persons here, he said the ruling parties had been overlooking the reports of the Lok Ayukta sometimes, if they were against their interests, with the help of leverage in the act that the institution could not force implementation of its judgments by the Government. He, however, observed that the practice was not in the best of interests of democracy. It was for the governments to implement the decision of institutions like court and Lok Ayukta offices. The courts could not do much practically if its decisions were neglected by the Governments, he opined. The Lok Ayukta also described media as a powerful weapon in the democracy. They should reflect majority public opinion. The ruling parties' intolerance towards the media was also not "unnatural", he noted.
