HYDERABAD: A day after the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, was reportedly subjected to security check at the Begumpet airport here, confusion prevails over the protocol to be observed for VVIPs. Officials are tight-lipped over the incident. Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the airport are reported to have used a hand-held metal detector before ushering in Ms. Jayalalithaa on Friday night. She was returning to Chennai after attending a conclave of regional parties organised by the Telugu Desam Party here. CISF officials at the airport refused to comment saying only their higher-ups could do so. The CISF officer in charge of airport security, V.M. Joseph, was out of station, they said. The city police maintained that their role with regard to security and protocol ended at the airport entry point. "From checking the passengers entering inside the airport lounge to keeping surveillance on persons moving suspiciously, the CISF does all by itself and never allows us to interfere," Begumpet inspector J. Subbarami Reddy told The Hindu . Police sources said the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh, was also subjected to a similar security check at the airport two days ago and none was given any relaxation.
