HASSAN: President A.P.J Abdul Kalam spent five hours in Hassan and participated in a function organised by the ISRO followed by an interaction with students at Kala Bhavan on Friday. However, most residents were forced to watch the programme on television as both ISRO and Kala Bhavan allowed entry only with passes. Children who were not able to go to Kala Bhavan (as its capacity is 825) stood with small flags all along the Halebeedu Hassan Road behind the barricade as the President's convoy passed through and President Kalam waved to them. Residents felt that the interactive programme should have been organised in the stadium instead of at the Kala Bhavan so more children could have participated. The President on his part was a symbol of simplicity. Dr. Kalam, through his speech, was like a teacher and an encouraging friend to the students.
