NEW DELHI: The Democratic Teachers' Front has expressed concern over a recent letter from the Delhi Government to the principals of fully-funded colleges of Delhi University indicating that it will not release the second instalment of funds if these institutions do not get themselves accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. NAAC is an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission. "The Government intends not only to bring disparity between the colleges of Delhi University but also attempts to destroy the autonomy of the University system by directly writing to the colleges and purposely creating multiple zones of authority," alleged the DTF. If any one of the 12 colleges has a low standard as per NAAC grading, it is because of the UGC and the Government who do not provide enough funds for infrastructure and sufficient number of teaching and non-teaching posts to the college, charged the DTF. "Despite the substantial increase in the population of Delhi, not a single college was added to Delhi University," said DTF Secretary Rajib Ray.
