KARIMNAGAR: The bandh call given by the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions of Powerloom Weavers of Sircilla, demanding increase in the wages of weavers was near total and peaceful in Sircilla town on Saturday. All shops, business establishments, cinema halls, petrol filling stations and other organisations remained closed. Majority of the business establishments have voluntarily downed their shutters and expressed their solidarity with the agitating powerloom weavers, who constitute majority of the population in the town. CPI(M), CPI, TDP, TRS and BJP leaders have supported the bandh call by taking out rallies in Sircilla town. It may be recalled that the powerloom weavers of Sircilla town have launched indefinite strike from Monday demanding increase in their wages. They also launched indefinite hunger strike and organised dharnas in front of the houses of powerloom owners and also staged rasta rokos. The weavers have threatened to launch fast unto death if the powerloom owners fail to hike their wages at the earliest.
