`Evangelist making false allegations against YSR'

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu launched a scathing attack against global evangelist K. A. Paul for making false and baseless allegations against Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy and AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he alleged that it was a conspiracy hatched by the TDP to defame and demoralise the Chief Minister and AICC president. He suggested that global peace promoter Mr. Paul should talk only truth and non-violence instead of succumbing to pressures from the opposition TDP and making false allegations against the State Government.

He said that the Congress party believed in all religions and was having highest regard to the peace promoters, who preach dharma and universal peace.

He also found fault with the opposition parties for making hue and cry over the issue and trying to gain mileage.

The DCC Christian community leaders also strongly condemned the allegations made by Mr. Paul. At a separate press meet, Congress leaders Paul Praveen, Sunny Edward, Suresh Kumar and others flayed Mr. Paul for talking politics instead of propagating the virtues of Christianity and universal peace.

They also warned that they would obstruct his peace mission programmes if he did not mend his ways.

Meanwhile, District Youth Congress leaders led by V. Anjan Kumar, Ama Anand, Akula Ramu, Gande Mahesh and others set fire to an effigy of Mr. Paul near Indira Chowk in Karimnagar town denouncing the statements made by him against Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Reddy.
