BHUBANESWAR: Anthrax has claimed 30 lives in Koraput district during last seven years, the State Assembly was informed on Friday. Since beginning this year, as many as six people died in anthrax in the district while health department was taking precautionary measure in wake of deaths, state Health Minister Duryodhan Majhi said. In 2003, anthrax claimed eight lives while the deaths due to disease was apprehended to surpass previous record this year. Mr. Majhi said NGO activists, village heads and departments working under panchayati raj were instructed to bury dead domestic animals by digging deep pit. The local veterinarians were asked to administer preventive injections in all domestic animals in the region, the health minister said. Wells being used for drinking water were regularly cleaned, he informed.
