Two-day programme by TTD in memory of Tarigonda Vengamamba

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will conduct a two-day programme at Balaji Bhavan here to propagate the values practised by Tarigonda Vengamamba, a social reformer in the 18th century.

At a press conference here on Saturday, TTD chairman B. Karunakar Reddy said it was imperative that today's youth were made aware of the social reforms that she practised even as early as the 18th century. He recalled that being a widow herself, she fought opposing the atrocities against women. Social reforms apart, Vengamamba was known as a staunch devotee of Lord Balaji.

The programme is being conducted together by TTD's Dharma Prachara Parishat and Tarigonda Vengamamba Vagmeya Project. Day one will see the release of a compact disc `Tarigonda Vengamamba Divyagaanam' by Mr. Karunakar Reddy and also the release of a book on her by Gnanpeeth awardee C. Narayana Reddy.
