HYDERABAD: An Additional Commissioner, a Joint Commissioner and two Deputy Commissioners of city police were among the 16 IPS officers transferred by the State Government on Saturday. The reshuffle also saw the transfer of Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner and Guntur Superintendent of Police. Incidentally, the transfer of Additional Commissioner of city, Rajiv Trivedi, was one of the main demands of Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) in the last few months. The MIM intensified the demand after the kidnap and encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh came to light. The party had, of late, targeted South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of the city, M. Kantha Rao, over events related to the blast at Mecca Masjid. Mr. Rao has also been transferred. While Mr. Trivedi has been shifted as Inspector General of Police, Greyhounds, Mr. Rao goes as DCP (Law and Order), Cyberabad. Another Additional Commissioner of city police, M. Punna Rao, takes the place of Mr. Trivedi while Guntur SP, B. Shivadhar Reddy, fills the vacancy caused by the transfer of Mr. Kantha Rao. The Group Commander of Greyhounds, Mahesh Chandra Laddha, will be the new Guntur SP. Two other officers of the city, V.R.K. Mohana Rao, Joint Commissioner, Special Branch, and Shikha Goel, DCP, North Zone, have been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Amit Garg, Joint Director, AP Police Academy, has transferred as Joint Commissioner, Special Branch, and M. Shiva Prasad, DCP, City Security Wing here, has been transferred as North Zone DCP in place of Ms. Goel. N. Sambasiva Rao, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Rayalaseema, will be the new Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner, and R.P. Thakur, on return from Central deputation, takes over from Mr. Sambasiva Rao. The Visakhapatnam Commissioner, V.S. Kaumudi, will join as Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) here in place of Mr. Punna Rao. Akun Sabharwal, Commandant, 4th Battalion of AP Special Police at Warangal, has been posted as SP of Visakhapatnam (Rural). Shankha Brata Bagchi, on repatriation from Centre, will be Commandant, 1st Battalion, APSP here. P. Umapathi, SP, CID, has been transferred to Vigilance and Enforcement.
