Paul's remarks draw flak

Special Correspondent

Christian organisations seek probe into Paul's lifestyle

VISAKHAPATNAM: The allegations made by Global Peace Initiative's president K.A. Paul against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Congress president Sonia Gandhi were false, said Congress MLC Revu Ratna Kumari here on Saturday.

Dr. Paul was talking about an incident three years after it had happened because he was upset that funds flow for his organisation had stopped, Ms. Ratna Kumari said at a press conference she addressed along with some pastors and elders from the Christian community.

President of Dalit and Christian Vedika Jacob Sastry said the government should conduct an inquiry to know how Dr. Paul could purchase a large extent of land in Sadasivpeta near Hyderabad, build the Rs.30-crore GUM City complex near Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district and also the means of income and expenses.

Bad impression

The speakers lamented that Dr. Paul's statements would create a bad impression about Christianity among the people. "If he is a true Christian, Dr. Paul should have prayed God to change the bad intentions of the people who want to harm him," said Prof. Jacob Sastry.

`Agents' of TDP

He said that Dr. Paul belonged to a forward caste and foreigners were more pleased if a forward caste person was attracted to Christianity in India. He also challenged Dr. Paul to conduct a Christian crusade in Visakhapatnam. Prof. Jacob Sastry alleged that Dr. Paul and his brother David Raju were Telugu Desam agents. District secretary of All India Christian Society Samson, senior pastor Sundara Paul and a senior surgeon and activist of Visakha Christian Crusade Arjuna spoke.
