MANGALORE: A surgeon from Bangalore, who had come on a holiday with his family to Dakshina Kannada, drowned in the sea off Ullal beach on Saturday. The police have identified the victim as H. Ravikumar (40), a resident of Viveknagar. He was a surgeon at an Employees State Insurance Hospital, the police said. Ullal police who have registered a case said Dr. Ravikumar had come to Ullal with his wife Manjula (39) and daughter Gowthami (13) after visiting places of pilgrimage at Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala. They were sitting on the beach facing the sea in the evening. Dr. Ravikumar was swept away by a huge wave that caught them unawares, the police said. His family members who went to his rescue were also swept away. Members of two local lifeguards association pulled them out from the sea. They were immediately taken to a hospital at Ullal, where Dr. Ravikumar was declared dead, the police said. Manjula and Gowthami who have been admitted to a hospital at Thokkottu near here are said to be out of danger.
