A joint effort against epidemics

KOCHI: Residents associations in the district are joining hands with Health officials to check spread of epidemics during monsoon.

A meeting of health officials and representatives of the Ernakulam District Residents' Associations Apex Council (EDRAAC) was held at the IMA Hall here recently.

The council distributed tips on how to check the spread of diseases such as jaundice, chikungunya, chickenpox and typhoid.

It was also decided to convene region-level meetings to disseminate the information to all residents associations, said P.K. Gopalakrishnan, general secretary, EDRAAC.

Free eye camp

The Panangad Mundempally Residents' Association along with the National Service Scheme of Panangad Fisheries College in association with Lions Club Cochin Metropolis and Ernakulam General Physicians' Association will organise a free eye camp on June 10.

Anniversary

The first anniversary of Parappillil Road Residents Association, Thiruvankulam, was celebrated with much gaiety. Thiruvankulam panchayat president E.V. Thankappan inaugurated the two-day celebrations. The programmes included a talk by career consultant Venkitaraman and a music concert by Cochin Swaralaya.

The annual general body meeting held along with the celebrations evaluated activities such as community policing, cultural activities, educational assistance and other social activities held by the association. The association has brought out a directory of its members and provided nameplates to all member houses.

Elected

The general body meeting of T.D. East Residents' Association elected R.N. Arwari and V.P. Kamath president and secretary of the association respectively.

P. Radhakrishnan (vice-president), N. Ravindran (joint secretary), R.V.L. Baliga (treasurer), R. Vijayakumar, K. Vijayachandra Menon, K. Anilkumar, K. Prakash, R. Syamala and R. Maya (committee members) are other office-bearers.
