Chennai: A group of poet Bharathiar's admirers, based in France, has announced a literary competition to celebrate his 125th birth anniversary. The Mahakavi Bharathiyar 125th anniversary celebration committee (France) comprises scholars, bank officers, entrepreneurs and teachers, who share a love for the poet's contribution to literature. The members, Tamils settled in France, have decided to hold a literary conference in Paris on November 4. The committee will also organise a conference in Puducherry. Entries to the competitions (poetry, short story and essay) should be original and based on ideas and values found in Bharathiar's writings. Biographies of the poet will not be accepted. Participants can write in English, Tamil or French. The competition is open to all. Entries for the poetry contest should be between 20-40 lines. Handwritten entries for stories and essays should not exceed 10 A4 sized sheets and typed entries should not exceed 6 A4 sized sheets. Entries may be sent to Paris Jamal, 4, 1st Street, Teachers Colony, Vettuvankani, Chennai - 41 by August 15. E-mail may be addressed to dassaradan@orange.fr or parisjamal@vsnl.com
