Golf
Memphis (USA): Arjun Atwal missed the cut by two shots after a four-over 74 in the second round of the Stanford St. Jude golf classic here. The Indian golfer, who has been struggling to make a mark in the occasional starts on the USPGA Tour this year, missed his fifth cut in a row.
World number four Adam Scott got himself in a position for a start-to-finish win in the lead-up to the second Major of the year the US Open at Oakmont. He leads the field by three shots after a third round 68 that gave him a total of nine-under 201. Second place was shared by David Toms (66) and Brian Gay (70) at six-under 204.
Ghei, Mann tie for 22nd
At Koh Samui (Thailand), Gaurav Ghei played a steady round to finish 22nd, even as S.S.P. Chowrasia and Gurbaaz Mann, who seemed to have a chance of a top-10 finish faltered in the final round of the Bangkok Airways Open. Korean stalwart Lee Sung completed a dominant wire-to-wire success for his maiden triumph on the Asian Tour. Lee, who fired a course record of 62 in the third round, remained steady with an even-par 71 in his final stretch at the Santiburi Samui Country Club. As Ghei carded an even-par 71 for a total par of even par 284 that gave him tied 22nd place, Gurbaaz slipped from overnight 15th to 22nd with a round of 73. Slipping even more was Chowrasia, whose seven-over 78 saw him end up tied 40th after being tied 15th after three rounds. Rahil Gangjee (73) and Digvijay Singh (72) finished four-over par 288 and tied for 35th, while Arjun Singh carded a 73 and ended with a total of seven-over 291 and in tied 46th place. PTI
