KOZHIKODE: A call at noon saying a bomb would explode at the Azhakodi Devi Mandiram, the marriage hall of Azhakodi Devi Temple here, turned out to be a hoax. The bomb squad and dog squad were pressed into service at the hall where a wedding ceremony was being conducted. The police suspect the call to be the handiwork of someone trying to disrupt the function at the hall. The police are trying to trace the telephone number to identify the caller. The police are probing into the incident. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR& CE) Department had on June 2 taken over the marriage hall amidst protests by devotees. The Deputy Commissioner of the department had, a couple of months ago, directed that the Azhakodi Devi Charitable Trust and Azhakodi Devi Temple Committee to hand over cash and property in their possession to the executive officer of the temple. The order had been issued after the arguments of both parties involved in the ownership dispute were heard. As many as 132 devotees, including women, had been arrested and removed by the police before the department officials entered the hall to take it over.
